Finebridge can trace its roots back to 1837 when the accountancy practice, Begbies was founded. Since then the firm has undertaken a number of metamorphososes to reach its current form. Begbies initially merged with Chartered Accountants Armitage and Norton, at which stage the firm Begbie Norton was established. In 1985, Shirley Jackson joined the practice and the name again changed to Begbie Norton and Partners. Following the retirement of Partner David Sapte, a further reorganisation took place, and Finebridge was formed. Finebridge has always resided in the Grays Inn area, and has become respected as a leading independent insolvency and reconstruction firm. Significant growth in recent years has seen new offices opened around the country. Bristol became the first satellite office in 1997, followed swiftly by Shrewsbury in 1998 and Cardiff and Croydon in 1999. In 2000 further offices were opened in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Swansea.
